Community Choir

An exciting new initiative is starting soon, that will appeal to people of all ages and stages of life, who love to sing. In partnership with Portlaoise Family Resource Centre, LOETB Community Education and Age Friendly Laois, we are launching a new Community Choir for a pilot 8-week period, and are putting the call out for members from all communities in the town and surrounding areas to join us.

A team of MGL Musician Educators, led by Nuala Kelly and James O’Connor, will facilitate the sessions, with a focus on enjoyable and easy-to-sing repertoire from a wide range of musical genres. Nuala Kelly says ‘There are so many benefits to singing with others, and the aim of the choir is to promote well-being, integration, literacy and inclusion, particularly among newer communities to Portlaoise, who will be most welcome. Community Choirs are thriving across the country and we are thrilled to start this initiative in Portlaoise where there is a real appetite for this kind of musical and social outlet.’

The choir is open to age 16+ with no upper age limit and will take place in two locations, giving the option to attend either a day or evening session :
Laois Music Centre, Church Avenue, Portlaoise (R32Y074) commencing Tuesday 21 May at 7-8.30pm.
Portlaoise Family Resource Centre, Knockmay, Portlaoise (R32C7DD) commencing Wednesday 29 May at 11am-12.30pm.

This pilot phase will culminate in a performance mid-July.
