WINTER RAMBLES

Brian McGrath (piano)
Matt Molloy (flute) John Carty (fiddle) and Brian Mcgrath (piano) to perform in Laois Music Centre, Portlaoise, on Friday 22nd November at 8pm as part of their forthcoming “Winter Rambles” tour, a night of top class tradional Irish music not to be missed.
Over the years, Matt Molloy has been a member of groups such as ‘The Bothy Band,’ ‘Planxty,’ and ‘The Chieftains’. His three solo albums on flute, as well as his recording as a trio with Tommy Peoples and Paul Brady, brought traditional flute playing to a new level.
John Carty is established among the elite of Irish traditional musicians. He plays with the bands ‘At the Racket’ and ‘Patrick Street’ and to date, he has released three solo fiddle albums, two banjo and two group albums. Most recently, he played a part in the scoring of the movie ‘Brooklyn,’ arranging and playing all traditional music elements in the score.
Matt and John have both been recipients of the prestigious TG4 Musician of the Year Award. Pianist Brian McGrath will accompany them for this year’s Winter Rambles Tour. Brian has played with several of the biggest names in the Irish traditional music sphere, including Matt and John, Frankie Gavin, Noel Hill and Eleanor Shanley to name but a few.
Music Generation Laois in partnership with LOETB Portlaoise Further Education and Training Centre are proud to present this opportunity to experience three of Ireland’s finest exponents of traditional Irish music. Be sure to join them on their winter rambles!
