Music Generation Laois are delighted to announce that Laois-born Harper Triona Marshall will perform as part of their end of year student concert, featuring musicians from the harp and uilleann pipe programmes, on Wednesday 27 of May at 7pm in the Portlaoise Youth Education Centre, on Railway St, Portlaoise. This concert will also feature Tutors from the harp and pipes programme –well-known Irish musicians Gay McKeon and Leonard Barry (pipes) and Siobhan Buckley (harp).

The concert will feature students from across the Music Generation Laois harps-in-schools programmes and their Portlaoise-based evening classes. The students will perform a mix of solo and group pieces from their repertoire and this concert will also feature the debut performance of the Music Generation Laois Harp Ensemble. Music Generation Laois’s uilleann pipe programme is delivered in association with Na Píobairí Uilleann – the national organisation for the preservation and development of uilleann piping.

Triona Marshall is well-known as Harper with The Chieftains, as well as for her vibrant solo career. Triona will return to Portlaoise on Thursday the 9 of July, to give a masterclass to musicians in the Music Generation Laois Traditional Music Summer School, and she will perform that evening in the Dunamaise Arts Centre, with Guitarist Tim Edey and Altan’s Martin Tourish. The Dunamaise Arts Centre concert will celebrate the launch of Triona Marshall’s new album, Between Two Ways.
