2nd Annual Laois School of Music/Music Generation Festival
Following the success of last year’s Festival, we are delighted to announce that Festival 2015 will take place on Sunday 8th March.
The aims of the Festival are:
- to improve performance skills and encourage high standards
- to develop repertoire i.e. not just learning exam pieces all year
- to give a sense of achievement and develop self confidence.
Categories are open to all instruments according to age and there’s even an Adult category for all our wonderful adult pupils! The Festival is non-competitive but an External Adjudicator, Martin Barrett from Co. Cork School of Music, will give feedback to all performers at the end of each category and medals will be awarded to all. It will be a relaxed and enjoyable experience for all and we would encourage as many of you as possible to enter.
Entrants must be receiving tuition at Laois School of Music/Music Generation Laois Centre in Railway Street. Your tutor has entry forms with Fees and Guidelines or download Festival Entry Form & Guidelines 2015.
Closing date for entries is Saturday 14th February

The aim of this pilot project is to create an orchestral percussion section for the Laois School of Music Junior and Senior Orchestras. We welcome current students of drums (African drums or acoustic drum kit), and piano and keyboard students. This initiative is funded by Laois Partnership Company.
Performing as part of an orchestra is an excellent way to improve a student’s standard of playing, as well as a fantastic social opportunity for students to play music with other young people. These Orchestral Percussion lessons are heavily subsidised, to encourage inclusion and accessibility. The first session is free of charge, therefore we welcome any interested students to come along on Friday 14 of November, to see what’s involved.
Orchestral percussion instruments include tuned and unturned percussion such as the glockenspiel, the xylophone, timpani, bass drum, snare drum, cymbals and handheld percussion. Piano and keyboard students should be able to adapt to both the glockenspiel and xylophone.
